Muslim offices in Davao City are getting ready for the start of Ramadan.

To prepare for the holy month, the Davao City Muslim Affairs Office (DCMAO), Madrasah Comprehensive Development and Promotion Unit (MCDPU), and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos Region XI have formed the Davao City Centralized Eid Prayer Council.

Aleem Abdulrahman Caderao, Executive Program Director of MCDPU, told the City Information Office that the council’s officers and board members were officially inducted yesterday. Their main task is to plan and organize two major events—Eid’l Adha, which marks the start of the fasting month, and Eid’l Fitr, which signals the end of Ramadan.

The council consists of 15 Muslim leaders, with Mufti Muhammad Yusop Pasigan as Chairman and Shaykh Abdulrahman Caderao as Vice Chairman.

“Gi-create ni siya aron dili katag-katag ang pagpahigayon sa duha ka Eids. Naa siya’y central nga council nga mao’y mu-suporta, magtinabangay, financially aron mapahigayon lang ang maong events,” Caderao said. (This means the council was formed to ensure the Eid celebrations are well-organized, with a central group that will assist, work together, and provide financial support.)

As part of the Ramadan preparations, a pre-Ramadan symposium will be held today from 9 AM to 3 PM at Jamjom Mosque, in front of SM Ecoland.

Caderao said the event will have four speakers who will discuss the meaning of Ramadan, fasting guidelines, the importance of charity, and the need for community bonding.

Meanwhile, moonsighting is scheduled for Friday. The sighting of the crescent moon will officially mark the beginning of Ramadan.

Suspected Carnapping Thief Killed in Shootout with Police in Davao City News

DAVAO CITY – A suspect involved in carnapping, known only by the alias Morsid, was fatally shot after attempting to escape from police officers in Brgy. Binugao, Toril, Davao City on the morning of February 15.

Reports indicate that the incident unfolded when personnel from the Toril and Bansalan Police Stations flagged down Morsid during a dragnet operation. The operation was initiated following a complaint filed by the owner of a blue Ombak vehicle that had been stolen from a mall parking lot in Toril.

Authorities were able to track down the suspect as he was heading toward the Cotabato area. Morsid’s group had been under surveillance for several months due to their suspected involvement in several carnapping incidents in the area.

The situation took a dangerous turn when the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and resisted arrest. In response, police were compelled to return fire, resulting in Morsid’s death.

While authorities have not yet confirmed if Morsid was connected to other recent carnapping cases in Toril, they emphasized that this operation is part of their ongoing efforts to combat the rising crime rate in the area. Investigations are ongoing, and law enforcement continues to focus on dismantling criminal syndicates involved in vehicle theft across the region.

This incident is the latest in a series of operations aimed at curbing carnapping, with local police intensifying their efforts to tackle criminal activities in the city.

Davao City – September 8, 2024 — Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), has voluntarily surrendered to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) today, ending weeks of heightened efforts to apprehend him.

According to reports, Quiboloy surrendered to Major General Edmundo Peralta, commander of the Intelligence Service of the AFP. He is set to be transferred to Camp Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City, where authorities will process his surrender and proceed with the necessary legal steps.

This development comes contrary to earlier statements made by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos, who initially announced that Quiboloy had been arrested. The clarification about his voluntary surrender has raised questions about the conditions surrounding the event.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-Davao Director Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III expressed relief following Quiboloy’s surrender, stating that he can now “sleep peacefully” after the 16-day long operation at the KOJC Compound in Davao City. Torre acknowledged the complex and intense nature of the operation aimed at bringing the self-proclaimed “son of God” to justice.

“We hope this marks the beginning of the healing process for KOJC members,” Torre added, hoping that Quiboloy’s followers will understand that the police were simply fulfilling their duties.

Quiboloy, who has faced multiple charges including human trafficking, child abuse, and sexual abuse, is also on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. His surrender is expected to expedite legal proceedings both in the Philippines and potentially in the U.S., where he is also wanted for prosecution.
